As Rome burns...

The US debt crisis is serious.

Yesterday I suggested there might be method but now, on reading the childish insults, I begin to wonder if American lawmakers have collectively lost their minds?

Of course, politics is a rough game -- as I well know -- and trading insults normal.

But... an American debt default would make the recent recession look like a cheese sandwich. Perhaps it's just a game of chicken to see who will cave-in.

That said, I recall a couple of funerals in my High School when two teens played chicken in fast cars and neither blinked -- they just died.

  1. What's becoming obvious is that the Republicans in the House and Senate have become dysfunctional. Boehner and McConnell have to do the bidding of two, diametrically opposed constituencies - the sane Republicans and the nihilistic Tea Party congressmen and senators. They're both too afraid of their radicals to whip them into line. Now they've become America's Khmer Rouge.
