Rod E. Bruinooge (born May 6, 1973) is the Conservative Member of Parliament for Winnipeg South in the 2006 federal election , and is currently the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development and the Federal Interlocutor for Métis and Non-Status Indians (Bruinooge is of Métis descent).
Although his position on abortion is popular among the Conservative faithful it seems highly unlikely that the Prime Minister will allow this to go beyond some media noises in light of the pending Parliamentary showdown. Harper has kept abortion out of the spotlight for too long to allow it to come back on stage now...
New chairman of pro-life Parliamentary caucus pushing to reopen abortion debate
WINNIPEG - The new chairman of a secretive pro-life Parliamentary caucus is pledging to rekindle the abortion debate in Canada and bring "more value" to the lives of unborn children.
Although Prime Minister Stephen Harper has said he's not interested in reopening the divisive issue, Winnipeg MP Rod Bruinooge told The Canadian Press people need to be better educated about Canada's abortion stance, which he says puts the country in a "class of its own."
"Very few Canadians appreciate the fact that essentially until a child takes its first breath, it has less value than a kidney," says Bruinooge.
"In Canada you can't remove your kidney and put it on eBay and auction it off. That is illegal. Whereas you actually can end a beating heart of an unborn child the second before it's delivered. Most Canadians would agree that is truly a poor bioethical position for our country to be in."

Why wouldn't Harper want this thing out there now? Think about it.
ReplyDeleteExcites the base, many of whom are likely to be losing their jobs and RRSP values now. Sows a bit of division in the Libs which has a pro-life caucus. And, most importantly, gets the media to chase this story around when the real story could be the tanking economy.
