Iranian UN address

KUDOS to the Federal Government for their UN walk out at the Iranian President's address. Support for the oppressed people of Iran and disgust at State sponsored anti-Semitism is not a political wedge issue.

  1. I don't agree. The U.N. is the one forum where you should be sitting and listening, even if you strongly disagree with what you hear.

If not here, where? If not now, when?

  2. The posts on this blog are so predictable. It must be nice to live in such a neat and tidy world.

Too bad the Harperites are in the process of gutting Canadian legislation designed to combat the very real anti-Semitism which still exists in this country. Now that this same legislation is being used to protect Muslims from hate speech it has somehow become unacceptable.

And you want us to applaud?

It's not like Harper is taking a particularly brave stand.

The crass and obvious anti-Semitism of Iran's leader being about as popular as herpies for most Canadians.

What's next? Harper is going to make a speech denouncing North Korea?

  4. Anti-semitism is it?
First, I doubt anti-semitism was ever high on Harper's list until he found the political convenience therein.
Second, I'd say kudo's to Downes for his comments.
third, I ask (rhetorically); you don't really believe bullshit is edible, do you?

  5. Harper is right to walk on a speech by the Iranian president, his country is the root of most of the instability in the middle east.

  6. I prefer to think of the Middle East as the root of Middle Eastern instability.

  7. Fair enough points -- maybe it is a place to listen? I am still inclined not to but I see the argument better now

  8. It would be refreshing to here what ignatieff has to say about all this.

I suspect as usual he will say nothing.
