Legal Aid Rate and "Fair and Reasonable" Compensation

The decision in R. v. Chemama 2008 ONCJ 140 deals with amicus curiae and their appointment and payment.

The interesting part of the decision, at least for counsel, is the finding by the Court that a fair and reasonable remuneration, discounted to reflect the public service nature of the work, is between $150 and $200 per hour.

Readers will recall this is considerably higher than the top end OLAP payment available.
