Thomas Cromwell for Supreme Court of Canada

Prime Minister Harper has just announced his appointment to replace Justice Bastarache, bypassing the committee system and before Parliament is dissolved.

Well, the Chief Justice did ask for a quick appointment. Having said that, the earliest Parliament would reconvene after an election would be 3 weeks later, when all the writs are returned, and that would only happen in the event of a Conservative win.

So November 3rd or 4th. When does the Supreme's fall session start?

We all know Harper just sets things up and makes laws so that he can break them: no senate appointments, process to select judges, fixed election law - he doesn't care, he does what he pleases. Haven't you heard Canada became a dictatorship a while back - you just weren't paying attention - give him a mjority then you might notice.
