Ottawa stands back

It's not over till it's over. Perhaps Ottawa was waiting to see what the results of the auction were. Still, it seems a shame to lose cutting edge Canadian technology to a foreign buyer.

The federal government does not plan to intervene in Nortel
Network's sale of its key wireless unit to Sweden-based Ericsson
until the deal has been reviewed by U.S. and Canadian courts next
week, a spokesperson for Industry Minister Tony Clement says.

"It would be inappropriate to speculate on this issue while it is
still being reviewed by the courts," Laryssa Waler told the Star by
email yesterday. "Because it's before the courts, I can't comment
further."

But New Democrat MP Paul Dewar, whose Ottawa Centre riding is home to many Nortel employees, called this attitude irresponsible and said the Conservatives are "sitting on the sidelines."

Can you imagine Sweden standing back while Ericsson were taken over by a foreign company?

Any notion that Ericsson will keep 2500 jobs let alone 2500 in Canada is completely dillusional. As for protecting Canada's future,
Harperites are to stupid to answer telephones let alone understand communications technology on an international level.
Typical of conservatives, all it took for them to roll over and play stupid was...lobbyists...certainly no more than one dinner per Harperite.
