Before I supported Michael Ignatieff I read several of his articles and one of his books. I met him and spoke to others about him. Based on that I supported him (and still do).
His book BLOOD AND BELONGING: JOURNEYS INTO THE NEW NATIONALISM is as good as any. His book stands as a sober reminder that we have not grown beyond our history.

Good for you James, in spite of Iggy being way worse than even the hapless Dion was before him you'll stick with him right up until the bitter end.
Here's a quote from Michael Ignatieff Liberal Party Leader;
IRAQ WAR: (May 2, 2004) “To defeat evil, we may have to traffic in evils: indefinite detention of suspects, coercive interrogations, targeted assassinations, even pre-emptive war.”
Ignatieff's book Empire Lite is a shoddy piece of historical revisionism and racism. His account of Vietnam completely leaves out the fact of 4 million dead Vietnamese. He uses the term 'barbarian' throughout the book, and has a completely inadequate -- and politically self-serving -- account of modern terrorism. Iggy specializes in serving lies for Western militarism to a largely uneducated public. You've been fooled. Go read the history of US foreign policy and you'll know why Iggy is a joke, not taken seriously in the academy.
I saw him lecture at the LSE. On his warrior book. Good lecture. He speaks well. Though I'm not that big a fan of the book.
He's a great writer and thinker. But more of a journalist than a scholar. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing.
About his Empire Lite book. He was at least trying to grapple with the issues.
For example. What do we do with captured terrorists? Do we treat them like captured soldiers? Or like criminals. To we put them in jail. When should we let them out? What do we do with them?
These are issues which have yet to be adequetly resolved.

Ignatieff is exactly what is wrong with the Liberal Party.
