Good for Stephen Harper!!!

(Picture, left, of Haiti's President René Préval and Prime Minister Stephen Harper).

I realize some will say that Stephen Harper is just on a photo op, but I am pleased to see he has gone to Haiti.

If he had not gone he would not have faced any negative press and the Haitian vote (while material in at least a couple of ridings) is not such as to require him to do more than to say the appropriate things.

Good for Stephen Harper!

Canada will help construct a temporary government base in Port-au-Prince so public servants can get back to work after last month's devastating earthquake, Prime Minister Stephen Harper announced Monday as he began a two-day visit to Haiti.

Canada will provide $12 million for one year for the administrative base, which will house key Haitian government ministries and public servants.

"The support that Canadians and the international community extended to Haiti is a testament to the compassion that unites humanity in the face of catastrophe," Harper said in Port-au-Prince.

"(This) is an important step towards early recovery and reconstruction efforts. Canada will continue to support the Haitian government as it moves forward with its reconstruction and development agenda."

why you would cut any slack to this photo-op-loving phony is beyond understanding

Anon@11:38 PM

You have misplaced anger issues, Iggy was forced on the rank and file by the Bloc Torontois after unceremoniously tossing Dion under the bus, now who's the phony?

Professor Puffin is the best thing that's happened for the Conservatives bar none, he's actually turned out to be even worse for the Liberals than even the hapless Dion before him.

If clues were shoes Iggy would be barefoot.

Anon 1:15 - so you've used childish name calling and silly phrases....you must be so proud of your deep intellect.

Here's one for ya:

When God handed out brains, you weren't in the room.

Sorry James, I disagree with you. It's just one photo-op after the other - lots of them. Photos that will be used during the next election campaign. Donating money for government buildings could have been done & expressed here at home. Another Harper waste of taxpayer monies. This trip is not inexpensive & the money could have been used in constructive ways - literally.

James Travers is even bluntly asking whether this trip is a political diversion. It's rather obvious that it is.

Harper should be more concerned about our parliament sitting.

Providing 12 m for Haiti's could of been done on the phone.
