In an open letter to the prime minister, Ignatieff called for a special committee to review prorogation.
"Mr. Harper sacrificed his entire legislative agenda simply to avoid the kind of accountability and transparency he once promised to deliver," Ignatieff said. "That's why our party has come forward with a proposal to place reasonable and responsible limits on the Prime Minister's ability to request a prorogation, and limits on the overall impact of prorogation."
Ignatieff also put forward a number of Liberal initiatives from the party's recent roundtables, including:
• Encouraging investment in start-up businesses
• Reform the Canadian Pension Plan and provide support for at-risk private pensions
• Call for an investigation into missing Aboriginal women in the Prairies
• More support for veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder
Harper had invited the Liberals to outline their priorities for the next session of the minority Parliament.

Um, not good.
• Encouraging investment in start-up businesses
Um, how? This sounds like you'll give tax breaks or direct funding to rich people (aka 'investors').
A better proposal: invest directly in start-up businesses.
• Reform the Canadian Pension Plan and provide support for at-risk private pensions
This sounds like support for the private pension plan Bush was promoting. I'd like to think that isn't the case.
Ignatieff should be clear about a policy direction here. He should say he intends to punish companies that renege on their pension obligations and refuse payouts to creditors (or takeover artists) before pension liabilities are covered.
• Call for an investigation into missing Aboriginal women in the Prairies
Oh good, just what Aboriginal women need, another panel of experts.
A better plan: SOLVE the disappearances, and take steps to ensure that they stop. Permanently. Not just on the prairies, but also places like B.C. and elsewhere.
• More support for veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder
That's like sticking a band-aid on a gaping wound.
The government should provide comprehensive support for all trauma resulting from mission conditions, including stress.
This should be delivered concurrently with similar health care support for all Canadians. A strong, resolute support for both the Canadian Forces and the health care system could be offered here, instead of the tiny one-tenth measure proposed by Ignatieff.
These four points are sad and disappointing.
Iggy dont screw around with the CPP
Methinks Morton, and Ignatieff indirectly, just got pwned by Downes here.
Naw, Downes, as always, makes good points. We don't always -- actually it's seldom -- agree but I am glad for his insights.
Also....
Increases for people living on OAS.
The only way Ignatieff can set priorities for the next Parliament is if he is PM. That's unlikely to happen so his letter is meaningless except for press exposure.I still have yet to see I make any commitments on what he would do if he was PM. Then again, its unlikely he'll be given that opportunity.
