Depressing reading -- a letter from late Bishop Joseph Windle of Pembroke to the Pope’s envoy to Canada, Carlo Curis.

I tend to take media reports about Church with a grain of salt.

Though not a Catholic I went, for a time, to a Roman Catholic school and a Jesuit University. My experiences with clergy, while not always happy, were uniformly proper.

As a result when I saw the story below in the Globe I was prepared to say to myself, "well, that's one side of what happened".

But there is a link to a 1993 letter from the late Bishop Joseph Windle of Pembroke to the Pope’s envoy to Canada, Carlo Curis.

The letter, which can be linked to in a pdf below, makes for some very depressing reading:

Vatican, Canadian church officials tried to keep sex scandal secret

A 1993 letter focuses on protecting the church’s image by preventing public knowledge of Bernard Prince’s abuse of altar boys
