CPC 33.9%, LPC 25.7%, NDP 16.4%

The Conservative lead is down from 10% but that's hardly news to cheer about. Clearly the Conservatives are doing something right -- we'll see if the G20/G8 mess affects the polls but my sense is that if it does it will be a blip:

The governing Conservative Party holds a national lead of eight percentage points over the Liberals, according to new poll by EKOS.

The poll, released exclusively to CBC, shows that when respondents were asked which party they would back if an election were held tomorrow, the Conservatives garnered 33.9 per cent support, while the Liberals took 25.7 per cent.

The NDP had the support of 16.4 per cent, while 11.9 per cent backed the Green Party and 9.4 per cent preferred the Bloc Québécois.

MOE suggests the lead is unchanged.

The theme is the same. The Libs in most cases try to conjure up an image that the Cons. are extremists and anti-women etc. yet, for four years now they have never been able to pull the pin.

The closer numbers in the winter I thought would not last as long as it did but finally the tory lead inched higher.

You may be right that the G/8 G/20 fiasco will close it a bit but probably only in TO and only for a couple of weeks or so.

As long as Canadians continue to enjoy a stronger economy than virtually all of the rest of the world there will only be an election under Harper's terms.

With a new leader I really thought I'd be more interested in the Liberals. But Ignatieff has really been a dud. Dion was better.

I don't understand this negative assessment of Ignatieff. I like having a thoughtful intellectual as a leader.

What truly surprises me is that Canadians have not been turned off by Harper's jackboot style contempt for democracy.

Why are people such idiot sheep? Why do they cheer these ugly thugs?
