Enough already

Sometimes I wonder about stories where people's "belief" is mentioned without a quotation. What's worse is "anonymous sources". If a story is a story let the people speak for themselves; otherwise someone is putting words into another one's mouth.

"In its Saturday edition, La Presse reports that "Jean Chrétien believes it's in the interest of the Liberal Party to merge with the NDP and build a party that can defeat the Conservatives in the next election." Indeed, anonymous Liberal sources told reporter Joel-Denis Bellavance that Mr. Chrétien believes that "merger is the only option - as the right was united."

Until Chretien himself says, "I'm in favour of a merger" I don't believe it.

This story will not go quietly into that good night.

The G&M has a story just up saying the "merger" talks are still on.

It's like that late night party guest who just won't leave!

I just thought of something. Isn't David Orchard a Liberal now? How ironic is that? Does he have a napkin with Iggy's signature declaring no merger ever? If so, watch out!

I wonder why Chretien himself, or any of the others (Romanow, Clark and Broadbent) who are supposedly in coalition talks aren't coming out to tell the media and the public what exactly is it they're doing/saying.

All we're getting are bits and pieces. He said/she said scenarios.

Warren Kinsella and his affidavits. However, he would have an axe to grind with his former party.

Apparently, Alfred Apps steps down sometime next week.

The only one who benefits is Harper because with all that inuendo and speculation and rumour, he has so much to play with in the media that could well have most Canadians forgetting his transgressions with Airbusses, Backdrops and fake lakes.

It's no longer enough for simply Layton and Iggy to vehemently deny any merger/coalition talks are happening.

It's high time for Chretien and those other dinosaurs to come out publicly one way or the other.

One more comment; I have to say I don't believe Joe Clark would be coming out to discuss any of this. What would he have to gain these days?

Jean Chretien believed in the sponsorship program, too. What did that do for the Liberal Party?
