New Poll -- Conservative lead down

(EKOS) The federal Conservatives continue to garner more support than the Liberals, but their lead is narrowing, a new EKOS opinion poll suggests.

The poll, released exclusively to CBC, suggests that 31.4 per cent of respondents would vote for the Tories if an election were held today, compared with 26.8 per cent who would back the Liberals.

The Tories' lead of 4.6 percentage points over the Liberals is down from the 5.5-percentage-point spread of last week and a lead of up to 10 percentage points last month.

Would that be like the polls that showed Paul Martin within striking distance of a majority in the fall of 2005?

In fact such a poll and conclusion was published by the very same pollster you've quoted.

Interesting yes, some reaction to G20 waste no doubt being baked in. Based on Harper's demonstrated ability to skate away from such troubles we should assume that a month or so from the conclusion of the G20, whatever impact on the Conservatives will be negligible.

Just in time for a fall election no doubt.
