International Holocaust Remembrance Day Statement Premier Dalton McGuinty

The Premier issued the following statement to commemorate the UN's 6th International Holocaust Remembrance Day:

"Together with all Ontarians, today we remember the six million who perished during the Holocaust — one of humanity's darkest hours. These were mothers, fathers, children, grandparents and loved ones — taken from us but never forgotten. We pledge to keep their memory alive and to bear witness to their suffering in the hopes that such a tragedy will never again occur.

At the same time, we celebrate the continuing strength of our Jewish community. Holocaust survivors have made enduring and invaluable contributions to Ontario through the families they've raised, the businesses they've built and the stories they've shared. They have inspired our people, helped build our nation and changed our world.

Today and every day, we will remember the suffering of those who perished in the Holocaust. We will also remember the survivors — and give thanks for the strength they've given our province, and their magnificent contribution to our shared quality of life."
