Perhaps it is an obvious statement, but Judeo-Christian teaching do not abandon those who are prisoners. A similar view is taken in Islam [see, for example, Qur'an 76:8]. While prison is sometimes necessary the dehumanization of prisoners, not matter what they have done, is never necessary or appropriate.
