Teen suicide rate drops overall but rises for girls

Overall the rate of teen suicide has dropped over time and fairly significantly.  But since teenage boys commit suicide at a far greater rate than girls a significant drop in boys killing themselves swamps a statistically significant increase in girls killing themselves.   None of this is to trivialize any suicide but rather to note the problem is complex and what works for one group may not work for another.   The rate, for example, is much higher in some groups and some regions than others.

Overall for all ages and subgroups the rate seems fairly constant in Canada around 11 in 100,000 being highest among those between 45 and 49 years old.
