and I don't see that particular sentiment expressed anywhere.

The closest one gets is this:

"Supreme excellence consists in breaking the enemy's resistance without fighting."

And also:

"Therefore the skillful leader subdues the enemy's troops without any fighting; he captures their cities without laying siege to them; he overthrows their kingdom without lengthy operations in the field."

Ah, "The Art Of War"... Great reading.

I particularly like this passage - which seems to reflect what is occurring right now with our relationship with the Conservatives...:

"If your opponent is of choleric temper, seek to irritate him. Pretend to be weak, that he may grow arrogant."

Sound familiar???
