TTC Strike

Perhaps it is just that I am getting older, and my tolerance is going down, but year by year the TTC seems to be getting worse rather than better.

Rides that took half an hour five years ago now cannot be reliably counted on to last less than an hour. The number of times the car is clean and there is a plausible chance to sit has dropped dramatically. And as for the number of crazy people wandering the subways and threatening random violence, well, don't ask.

And then there's the strike with the endless calls not to be rude to TTC employees. Leaving aside the obvious immediate inconvenience, the question is how can the TTC (and its unions) be so out of touch as to negotiate a deal that is rejected by 65% of workers? And a deal that, although unsatisfactory to workers, seems financially insupportable by the Commission.

At current costs, driving downtown is almost the same price (sometimes cheaper) as the TTC, at least for a group.

As for me, I'm driving downtown tomorrow.
