Bill Reid -- Wicked Theft

"One can only hope the thieves don't want the gold objects to melt down for metal value -- jcm"

VANCOUVER - RCMP are expected to release more information today into a theft that has shocked the Canadian art world.

Twelve pieces by the late Bill Reid were stolen this weekend at the University of British Columbia's Museum of Anthropology.

Several Mexican gold necklaces were also taken.

Most of the items were made of gold but their monetary value has not been revealed.

Pictures of the objects were released yesterday, showing a gold box, bracelets and necklaces.

Friends of Reid's widow, Martine, say she's distressed by the theft and hopes a reward is offered to get them the works of art back.

what a shame. UBC's museum of Anthropology is a must-see for anyone doing Vancouver. Let's hope the thieves get caught soon!
