Markham, Ont. - A Markham mother has been found not criminally responsible for drowning her two daughters in 2006.

The 33-year-old woman told psychiatrists she drowned her two and a half year-old- and three-month-old daughters in the bathtub of their family home because she wanted to bring them with her to heaven. After killing the children, she slashed her wrists and throat, drank paint thinner and toilet bowl cleaner.

She was charged with second degree murder.

found "not criminally responsible" .. does this mean no jail sentence? will she be committed to a facility of some kind? I would hate to think that she'd be free to be out in the community, potentially watching other people's children, or (god forbid) have more of her own!! As a mother myself, I simply cannot understand what she did. Was she diagnosed with postpartum pyschosis?
