Vaughan, Ont. - Vaughan's city councillors have authorized a prosecutor to start legal action against their mayor Linda Jackson for alleged violations of the Municipal Elections Act.
Officials claim to have found at least $12,000 of overspending by Jackson during the last municipal election.
Vaughan city council has appointed an independent prosecutor to determine exactly what charges should be laid against the mayor.
A judge will then decide if Jackson violated election rules. The penalties range from a fine to expulsion from office.
