A Toronto man who pleaded guilty to street racing causing the death of an Innisfil truck driver has been sentenced to two years house arrest.
He has also been handed a lifetime driving ban.
Nauman Nusrat, 20, of Etobicoke, pleaded guilty in April to street racing causing the death of David Virgoe, 48, of Innisfil, during a 44-kilometre race against two friends on Highway 400, June 17, 2007.
Nusrat was to be sentenced last month, but the judge was not available, so his sentencing was adjourned to June 3.
Crown attorney Karen McCleave is asking for a lifetime driving ban and a prison sentence of 44 months, less the 302 days Nusrat has already spent in custody -- note, this amounts to a prison term of almost two years. She asked the judge to equate the crime of street racing causing death to drunk driving causing death.

Street racing is worse than drunk driving; at least the drunk didn't try to kill somebody. A street racer knows he will have a really good chance of killing somebody. This guy is a murderer.

Let's get this straight.
Robert says that the "drunk didn't try to kill somebody."
How is that possible? If a street racer who is SOBER didn't try to kill the innocent driver, how the hell can a drunk get a free pass?
Drunks know that when getting behind the wheel, there will be a "significant chance" they will get in an accident and possibly kill someone.
It's amazing how you so called "progressives" can be so stupid.
Sorry Robert, but drunks are responsible for more deaths in Canada then handguns and street racers combined.
And that's a fact.
Grow up.
