Here's an interesting website for political junkies:
http://www.liberal.org.au/
The particular policies of the Australian Liberal Party seem pretty well what you'd expect from a centre party. What's of greater interest is the way the website is set up. The opening graphic is very strong and speaks to the concerns of ordinary voters -- gas prices, grocery prices and interest rates. The page then makes suggestions (cutting gas taxes for example).
Whether these are the right specific policies isn't the issue; the issue is how good the website is communicating those policies.

We have friends from Australia, who were nice enough to visit us a few times. They say the Liberal party is a Conservative party, not Liberal. The net concerns really mean nothing.
Oh, I agree; my point is rather that the website is very effective.
So I realise this comment is late but describing the Liberal Party of Australia as a party of the 'centre' is wildly inaccurate.
If you'd trouble yourself to read the website a little more closely you would notice that the Liberal Party describes itself as being of the centre right.
Under Tony Abbott's leadership the (Australian) Liberal Party has now, however, become a party of the 'lunar' right. It does not equate to the Liberal Party of Canada but rather the far right fringe of the Conservative Party.
I realise it's confusing that a right-wing party is called 'liberal' however the Liberals themselves would claim they are the party of Burke as well as John Stuart Mills.
