CALGARY (CBC) - Calgary police closed part of Centre Street North Sunday to investigate a shooting that ended with a man dead in a crashed SUV.
Emergency crews received calls on Saturday night of a vehicle colliding into a tree in the 5400 block of Centre Street North around the same time as reports of shots being fired in the area.
Police found a black SUV with the lone male occupant dead inside. The vehicle had been struck by bullets before crashing into the tree, said police.
They said the vehicle was traveling southbound on Centre Street North at about 8 p.m. before it crossed the northbound lanes and hit the tree.
Police closed Centre Street North from McKnight Boulevard to 54th Avenue in both directions for their investigation. The closing was anticipated to last most of Sunday.
The homicide and gang units are both involved in the case.
