Statement by the Hon. Stéphane Dion, Leader of the Official Opposition, on the Death of Toronto Fire Services District Chief Robert Leek
On behalf of the Liberal Party of Canada and our Parliamentary caucus, I would like to offer my deepest sympathies to the family, friends and co-workers of Toronto Fire Services District Chief Robert Leek, who died yesterday in a propane explosion in Toronto.
This terrible tragedy serves as a reminder of the bravery that is required of our firefighters, who selflessly put themselves at risk every day to protect the lives of others. We owe them a tremendous debt of gratitude.
As a 25-year veteran, Mr. Leek was a true Canadian hero, whose sacrifice will not be forgotten. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family as they cope with this tremendous loss.
