Dreidelgate

OK, I was too close to this and decided not to blog the first media reports -- but now that it is main CTV TV I can't hold back any more.

What a truly bizzare story -- partisanship gone wild!

As described by the person posting the story to Youtube (his spelling and location of the event are a little off but, whatever):

CTV News Report, on the Conservatives attempted political interference by Georganne Burke, a Tony Clement staffer in a Minorah Lighting ceremony in Richmond Hill, Ontario. She wanted the event shut down, and even tried to bully organizers. Why do you ask? Because Michael Ignatieff was lighting the menorah, and addressing the audience. Just another example of Tory partisanship going way too far

Very sorry to hear about this. It's important to fight this behaviour. In an earlier event, Ignatieff agreed not to attend because the library was worried about the Conservative threats to their funding. In this case, the school was brave to stand up to this kind of intimidation.

Perhaps concerned people should write to Clement or other senior Conservatives demanding that they deal with this. Or do you have other suggestions?

Suggestions? I have one... how about not voting for them - and let's all ensure we spread the word (on how this went down).

This is the kind of stuff I read about in 1984. Gosh... I'm not sure what would happen if Big Brother decided he doesn't like me...

The Connie "partisanship committee" is always working full throttle. Just what do we all think goes on in the giant HQ they've built in Ottawa?

During the last election, I was part of a group working on getting some municipal changes done, and thought it wise to invite some of our local politicos (federal, provincial, and municipal). The meeting was attended by the local Con MP. Some of our group felt he hadn't seemed willing to help our association (as willing as other local politicians), and one of the group blogged about it. Well... interestingly enough, not hours after the blog post apparently went up, I received an ominous email from "Tory Central" talking about how they didn't appreciate the blogger doing this. Inquiring WHOM the blogger was, and then, rather meekly indicating that the MP was doing what he could to help.

This is their game. We just need to fight back, "good and hard", that's all.

These clowns are just nutz. They want to strip a disabled childrens charity of funding because they allowed a Liberal to celebrate the (Jewish) holiday? Creeps
