Selection of interim Leader

Much discussion has gone on in the last few days about a caucus selection of an interim Leader.

It's critical to emphasize this is an 'interim' Leader. With the current situation we must have strong leadership in place for January and it is essential that caucus act. Whomever the caucus selects will be confirmed (or not!) by the membership voting through delegates at a convention.

Setting up e-voting on the fly (and remember we decided against e-voting quite recently) doesn't make sense. Let's stop "winging it', we've had enough amateurish activity, and proceed in the proper process.

Lieutenant Morton, I would expect a learned solicitor like yourself to know that the interim leader is not selected by caucus!

Any more thoughts on Khadr?

"Let's stop winging it."

Yes, and let's start abiding by the Party constitution, which sets out that it is a requirement to abide by democratic principles. Appointing a leader is not democratic - voting for one is. While both the contenders agree that the vote needs to be sped up, only Bob Rae has come out in support of a mechanism to allow the membership of the Liberal Party to decide who is selected.

Oh, and anyone who believes that appoint Ignatieff interim leader and then keeping a May 2 vote keeps the playing field fair is out to lunch. Period. That includes you James Bowie.
