Thought about suspending Parliament

It will become a customary tool for the Prime Minister (Conservative, Liberal or NDP) when facing a confidence vote. Remember, Parliament can be suspended for a year less a day so today's result may prove problematic in years to come ... .

And, while I realize the current GG was not appointed by Harper, will it become standard practice in the future for each newly elected government to appoint a reliable GG right away in case they should need a helpful decision?

agreed. It's an absolutely cheesy way out. Harper is a scaredy-cat.
