The University Club in Toronto is one of the last private clubs left in the city.
It has been around for over a hundred years and is an historic location just north of the American Consulate on University Avenue.
Unlike many other clubs the University Club was never 'restricted' -- it always, from the very start, took all races and creeds, provided only that the person joining had a university degree (hence the name University Club -- the club is not connected to University of Toronto at all).
Each year the Club does a number of holiday events generally to raise money for charity. Here we see the Christmas tree.

Just to note that the University Club did not admit women until it changed its constitution in 1988, and, according to their web site,"Full privileges were finally extended to all members three years later."
..thought this might interest you. A few years ago I joined the University Women's Club, up the street on St. George in Toronto. It looked comfy and cosy but WHAT A SHOCK they're stuck in the last century. I have an Eastern European first name and the women - all WAPS except for one black - broke their tongues -trying to pronounce my name! (and couldn't). All the while the multicultural U of T was outside their door, a reality they were totally oblivious to.
I was told the club had women in my age range.. argh.. everyone was my grandma! I tried to stay.. it was a mis fit under the best of circumstances, but the grandmas finally revolted - when I tried to introduce the club to wireless internet! It was insane. I did get them wired.. and left..
A place from another century @ 162 St George... so much for women and university...
