York University strike continues

I suppose this surprised no one but I may well mean the year will be lost to the students. The University better start considering refunds and the like. How the part-time faculty are surviving is beyond me.

The York community, administration and striking workers, have breached a trust. The blame does not rest solely with one side. No amount of finger pointing will hide that it is a collective blame. For eleven weeks the two sides have been playing a careless game of "chicken"... two trains racing on the same track toward each other with no regard for the welfare of the 50,000 students who stand between them. I have strongly advised my second year student to start applying to other schools. Mass transfer of existing students and low new student enrollment figures underminds the Union's assumption of increased enrollment in hard times. I am hard pressed to imagine how university will be able to avoid steep tuition increases in the near future.

very bad situation for everyone involved, particularly the students. I'm glad I went to UofT :)
