Sophie Kinsella

No relation to Warren and a fine comic writer -- but is it just me or is the Confessions of a Shopaholic series, and Becky's issues a little outre in the collapsing economy? The movie is amusing but a little awkward, at least in light of the recession ... .

The movie was okay, but the book far better. As for the timing, I'm sure it was shot over 18 months ago, when the economy wasn't as bad.
In typical Hollywood style, the main character is made out to be American when in the character she's British and living in London which, I think, would have made a much better movie. Making the character American now will make it difficult to do a film version of "Shopaholic Takes Manhattan" (the second or third book in the series).
