$1,400,000 for every job saved

If today's news is right and the auto bailout really cost $1,400,000 for every job saved (for the moment) then the government out to resign.

And this is not merely a partisan statement. If a Liberal government screwed up that badly it would be time for an election.

It takes little insight to see the deal made -- $1,400,000 per insecure job -- is a terrible one.

On this, we agree.

But in my view, bailouts should not have happened at all. If we're going to have market capitalism, then let's have market capitalism. Don't switch to corporate socialism when times get tough. That's unfair to all those who have, in Harper's favourite words, "played by the rules."

I agree...the bailout should never have happened. Liberal or Conservative, I don't think the strategy between parties would have been all that different.

Has the Liberal party come out AGAINST the bailout?

Would a Liberal led coalition provided auto bailouts?

I think that the Liberals would have been even less inclined to opposed the auto sector and its supporters in the Ontario heartland.

What was really needed here was something creative, and we didn't see that coming from any of the parties. Our political system as a whole is failing us at this moment.

You may all be right -- I'm not sure we would have done anything very different. But that's sort of my point -- if we screwed up this way I think an election over the issue would be proper.

NOT THAT I WANT AN ELECTION!!!!
