"But when sobbing nannies Magdalene Gordo and Richelyn Tongson started passing around the Kleenex box, fretting they were "mentally tortured and physically stressed" and treated as "slaves," even while neglecting to report their traumatic experience for a full year after leaving the family home, well, the believability advantage shifted to Ms. Dhalla.
While poignant, there are nagging inconsistencies in the nannies' changing stories, doubts elevated by Ms. Dhalla, who produced documentation proving her family had hired sidewalk shovellers and medical clinic cleaners, which makes you wonder why the nannies would claim to have been ordered to perform those tasks.
And at the risk of sounding heartless, these caregivers are undoubtedly well aware their tearful display of victimization is a guaranteed get-into-Canada card for permanent residency status unless, of course, Ms. Dhalla becomes Immigration Minister in any future Liberal government."

Michael Ignatieff: "I think Ruby made a vigorous defence of her integrity, her honour and her treatment of these – the people in her employ."HER employ? Fundamental to the whole issue is the question whether she was involved, at all, as employer. Interesting.
Even more interesting was Ignatieff's media scrum on the issue -
Reporter - "So you take [Ruby Dhalla] at her word but not the nannies? You can’t have both."
Michael Ignatieff: "Merci."
Indeed. :D
What's missing James,
is any ex-employee of Ruby's coming out to tell us what a sweetie she is to work for.
How unbelievable it is that Ruby would hurt anyone.
How Ruby is kind and generous and a pleasure to be around.
That would go alot further than documents her brother signed, or poor recollection from a nanny.
Why didn't the Dhalla's just hire a Molly Maid? Why go through this federal program? Certainly it has become obvious it wasn't to sponsor any immigrant women.
Don Martin doesn't know much about how well vulnerable people compartmentalize negative feelings and emotions. They only opened up at the meeting (a year later) because Wynne encouraged everyone at that meeting to open up. So they told their story for the first time and all the negative feelings and emotions that came with it.
Seeing Dhalla wave about her 'records' didn't convince me, certainly not with her lawyer right beside her, it was just too much, Ruby as victim, I don't buy it.
Something is wrong here and Neil and Mom should stand up tell us why 3 nannies (they didn't need) all left that house completely unhappy.
"Mentally tortured and physically stressed".
I wonder who fed them those lines. The "crying" also seemed so contrived (no oscar nominations).
Why didn't they go to Ottawa to face the committee in person?
Something is defintely wrong with this issue. Why did it take 15 months for them to come forward?
One other point, is how can a sitting MP (presumably, having a residence in Ottawa)know what is going on in the Dhalla household every second of the day? I would have to presume that the family is quite capable of managing the household without having Ruby there to tell them what to do, when to do it, and how to do it.
