As Michael is made Leader

I am writing from the floor of the Vancouver convention centre.

Michael is being formally elected leader.

Michael Grant Ignateiff.

To my surprise I find the moment quite emotional. This has been a long journey.

From our first meeting at the Ottawa policy convention, just a few years ago, Michael has been a committed Liberal. He fought a hard battle to become an MP and since then has struggled against considerable odds to become Liberal Leader.

He has united the Party -- we are all as one today. He will be the next Prime Minister and will be the next great Prime Minister.

Laurier, Trudeau, Ignatieff.

I get that you are happy, but comparing the guy to L & T when he hasn't even become PM yet is a bit over-the-top.

And I must disagree with your saying he has fought a long and hard road to become and MP and now the party leader - in both cases, he didn't even have to fight any competitors - the one time he did, at the last convention, he lost. The only way he ever succeeds is when things are handed to him, and federal elections don't work that way. Hold your horses before using the Next Great PM title!
