This is good and I am not complaining that a Canadian company has a great achievement. But it seems hard to cheer for saving jobs in Europe when we are losing them here.
But perhaps I am being too localist? James Morton 1100-5255 Yonge Street Toronto, Ontario M2N 6P4

Normally I would agree with you,but if i go by what this article says we can have jobs right here in this country.
This is the quote that caught my eye: “We want to build Opel cars in Canada, ” Magna chairman Frank Stronach said. So you see why we have to believe that jobs would be created in this country by this acquisition. I'm optimistic, are you?
There's no such thing as a 'national' corporation any more. As the previous commenter explained, Opel jobs means jobs in Canada as well.
But even more, Opel jobs in Europe means jobs in Canada. Because our prosperity depends not only on our own health, but also the health of our trading partners.
Localism and nationalism are bits of jingo used by bankrupt commentators to draw attention away from real issues and debates.
Focus on what is good for everyone, not just us. Rise above partisan localism.

And that's "Opel" James, not Opal. ;)
