Congratulations to Federal judicial appointees!

The Honourable Rick Leroy, a partner with Gorrell Grenkie Leroy Remillard, in Morrisburg, Ontario, is appointed a Judge of the Superior Court of Justice in and for the Province of Ontario. Mr. Justice Leroy received a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Toronto in 1973 and a Bachelor of Laws from Queen's University in 1976 and was called to the Ontario Bar of in 1978. Mr. Justice Leroy was a partner with Gorrell Grenkie Leroy Remillard from 1978 to 2009. He has been a member of the Ontario Children's Lawyer Panel in Stormont Dundas and Glengarry and Leeds and Grenville and a member of the Family Responsibility Office Panel in the five counties since 1985. Mr. Justice Leroy's main practice areas are in family, civil contracts litigation, mediation, real estate, estates and financial planning. The Honourable Michael Dale Parayeski, a partner with Agro Zaffiro LLP in Hamilton, Ontario, is appointed a Judge of the Superior Court of Justice in and for the Province of Ontario.  He replaces Mr. Justice J. Ramsay in Kitchener who was transferred to Hamilton. Mr. Justice Parayeski completed 2 years as a history major at the Dalhousie University in 1974 and received a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Western Ontario in 1978. He was called to the Ontario Bar in 1980. Mr. Justice Parayeski was an associate with Agro Zaffiro LLP from 1980 to 1985 and then partner with Agro Zaffiro LLP from 1985 to 2009. Mr. Justice Parayeski has developed an expertise in insurance defence work including Personal Injury and Professional Negligence Defence. The Honourable W. Danial Newton, a partner at Carrel & Partners LLP in Thunder Bay, Ontario, is appointed Judge of the Superior Court of Justice in and for the Province of Ontario. He replaces Mr. Justice T.A. Platana in Thunder Bay who elected to become supernumerary judge. Mr. Justice Newton received a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Western Ontario in 1979 and a Bachelor of Laws from Osgoode Hall Law School of York University in 1982. He was called to the Ontario Bar in 1984. Mr. Justice Newton was a partner at Carrel & Partners LLP from 1984 to 2009 and has developed an expertise in Civil Litigation. The Honourable Edward E. Gareau, a partner with Feifel Broadbent Gareau Gualazzi in Sault Ste Marie, Ontario, is appointed Judge of the Superior Court of Justice in and for the Province of Ontario.  He replaces Mr. Justice W. L. Whalen in Sault Ste Marie who elected to become a supernumerary judge. Mr. Justice Gareau received a Bachelor of Arts from Queen's University in 1979 and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Windsor Law School in 1983. He was called to the Ontario Bar in 1985. Mr. Justice Gareau was an associate with Kozak & DeLorenzi from 1985 to 1988 and a partner with them from 1988 to 1999. Mr. Justice Gareau was then a partner with Feifel Broadbent Gareau Gualazzi from 1999 to 2009. Mr. Justice Gareau's main practice areas include Family Law, Mediation, Collaborative Law, Civil Litigation, Wills, Estate and Residential Real Estate.The Honourable Thomas John McEwen, a partner with Adair Morse LLP in Toronto, Ontario, is appointed Judge of the Superior Court of Justice in and for the Province of Ontario. He replaces Mr. Justice J.R. McIsaac in Newmarket who elected to become supernumerary judge as of September 25, 2008.Mr. Justice McEwen received a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Western Ontario in 1984 and was called to the Ontario Bar in 1986. Mr. Justice McEwen was an associate with Adair, Morse LLP from 1986 to 1989 and a partner with Adair Morse LLP from 1989 to 2009. Mr. Justice McEwen's main practice areas are Personal Injury, Professional Negligence, Products Liability, Libel and Slander, Insurance Coverage, Statutory Accident Benefits, Worker's Compensation, Sexual Abuse and Commercial Litigation.The Honourable Hugh K. O'Connell , a Deputy Director with the Public Prosecution Service of Canada, Ontario Regional Office, is appointed a Judge of the Superior Court of Justice in and for the Province of Ontario. He replaces Madam Justice T. Maddalena in Newmarket who will be transferred to Welland.Mr. Justice O'Connell received a Bachelor of Arts in 1984 and a Bachelor of Laws in 1987 from Queen's University and was called to the Ontario Bar in 1989. Mr. Justice O'Connell was a team leader of the Federal Prosecution Service from 1995 to 2001, an on-site counsel for the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit from 2001 to 2009, has assisted as federal wiretap agent on the guns and gangs taskforce and was Deputy Director of the Regional Legal Operations, Public Prosecution Service of Canada from 2006 to 2009. Mr. Justice O'Connell has developed an expertise in Criminal Law.The Honourable Susan E. Healey, a partner at Stewart, Esten in Barrie, Ontario is appointed a Judge of the Superior Court of Justice in and for the Province of Ontario. She replaces Mr. Justice R.N. Weekes in Barrie who resigned.Madam Justice Healey received a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Toronto in 1988 and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Western Ontario in 1991. She was called to the Ontario Bar in 1993. Madam Justice Healey was a mediator at the Mediation Centre of SimcoeCounty from 2000 to 2009, a Deputy Small Claims Judge from 2005 to 2009 and has practiced at Stewart, Esten as an associate from 1993 to 2007 and a partner from 2008 to 2009. Madam Justice Healey has developed an expertise in Personal Injury, Medical Malpractice, Estate Litigation, Commercial Litigation, Family Law, Family Mediation and Estate Mediation.The Honourable Caroline E.. Brown, a sole practitioner in Hamilton, Ontario is appointed a Judge of the Superior Court of Justice in and for the Province of Ontario.Madam Justice Brown received a Bachelor of Science from the University of Toronto in 1988 and a Bachelor of Laws from Osgoode Hall Law School in 1991. She was called to the Ontario Bar in 1993. Madam Justice Brown practiced at Ross & McBride, Barristers & Solicitors from 1993 to 1995 and was a sole practitioner from 1996 to 2009. Madam Justice Brown has developed an expertise in Family Law.These appointments are effective immediately.
