Conservatives jump to big lead in poll

I'm not happy with this but we have to deal with it...

OTTAWA (Reuters) - Canada's governing Conservatives have leaped to a sudden lead among likely voters that could bring the party a majority in Parliament, according to a poll published on Monday that diverges sharply from other recent surveys.

The impression that the economy was recovering from a recession helped propel the Conservatives to 39 percent support and cut the Liberals to 28 percent, the Ipsos Reid poll said. Two months ago, it had the Liberals ahead 35 to 34 percent.

...
Most recent polls had put the two main parties neck and neck, and a Nanos survey two weeks ago had the Liberals ahead by 2-1/2 percentage points.

Next week the Liberal caucus meets in Sudbury, Ontario. The party could reach a decision at the meeting to bring down the Conservative government and force an early election.

...

The survey had the leftist New Democrats at 14 percent, the Green Party at 10 percent and the separatist Bloc Quebecois at 8 percent.

Conducted August 18-20, the survey of 1,001 Canadians carries an error margin of 3.1 points 19 times out of 20.

Don't worry Morton. It looks as though it's a rogue poll.

Look at this poll out today: http://www.eastottawa.ca/article-cp244120226-Liberals-Tories-in-dead-heat-poll.html

It says there's a statistical tie, like all the others.

It reminds me of the polls a few months ago where the Greens were at 26% in Quebec. We never saw those kinds of numbers again because the poll was flawed.

Why would you want to deal with something that is clearly an OUTLIER. Some critical thought is required here, don't read anything in to this DUD.

I concur. Leave the NDP and such to crow about this. Other polls released today don't support Ipso's conclusions, nor have others in the past 2 weeks.

It probably is indeed a rogue poll. However, if it is true then the Liberals deserve it for once again looking like frightened deer in the headlights of the Conservative party in May and June. When are the Liberals finally going to wake up to the simple fact that Harper's conservatives are employing a simple bully strategy keep opponents at bay. And when someone steps up and says that they are going to confront the bully and then backs down it actually strengthens the bully in people's minds. It is like social studies 101 and the Liberals haven't clued in for nearly four years now. Amazing.

It doesn't matter. If being tied with the governing party during the worst economic times in recent memory is the best that the Liberals can do, then there is a problem.

This poll tells us more about the pollster than it does about the electorate.
