Case study one: Montreal cab driver fined hundreds because he displays small religious symbols in his cab. Common-sense solution: don't get in his cab, if it offends you. Or, leave him alone.
Case study two: Toronto Star columnist writes on Twitter: "MP Irwin Cotler's children join IDF. Which country are you loyal to, sir?" Common-sense solution: don't use canards as old as the Protocols, even on Twitter. Or, leave the foreign affairs journalism to those without an axe to grind.
Skill-testing question on the case studies: what is the issue that is common to both case studies?
Yep. The struggle goes on.

Keep religious symbols out of the work place.
Keep your children out of military organizations that oppress the weak and are routinely cited for criminal activity.
Keep anonymous comments that have no value out of blogs.
I was going to reply to you, but what is the point? You said nothing that requires a proper response. Read our Charter re your first wrong statement and for the second, well, maybe throw out your copy of The Protocols.
I await the day that two intelligent, well spoken individuals (Mr. Kotler and Mr. Mortin) join the Conservative Party.
Instead of amplifying Warren Kinsella's cartoonish attempt to sow division among Liberals on an issue fraught with ambiguity which Canadians should not have to pick sides on, you should be criticising him for engaging in crass hyperbole.
Protocols...really. Are we Liberals supposed to be pleased that we're being represented by someone who thinks we're that stupid?
There is a long and infamous history of attacking Jews because of the perception they aren’t loyal subjects or citizens (attacks which might make me question my loyalty to the group attacking me). Everyone should resist such blatantly anti-Semitic narratives.
The problem is Canada is at war. Renowned bleeding heart and retired Brigadier General Lewis Mackenzie argued on the CBC the other night that Canada is going to struggle to keep troops in Afghanistan until 2011. We need troops. Badly.
There is a real fight going on over there. And not enough Canadians are interested in joining the military. So it really sucks when those who are interested in the military decide to join a foreign one. It sucks.
I don’t want to second guess anybody. But what are Canadians supposed to think?
It’s embarrassing more than anything else. This is no different than ex-Alberta MP Myron Thompson blustering about his son being in the Marines. It’s embarrassing.
These are prominent Canadians and their kids would rather serve in another country’s military than Canada’s, at a time when Canada is at war. Embarrassing.
Canada is such a weird country.
