Michael Ignatieff

I've been in a trial for the last few weeks and haven't been as diligent posting as I might. Posting? Heck, I haven't been as diligent sleeping as I might!!!

But tonight I saw the Leader briefly (and somewhat unexpectedly) and was struck by his grace and charm.

Michael is a thoughtful, passionate and compassionate man. He is a thinker and says what he thinks. That's not always politically be most expedient but Canadians aren't foolish.

Pandering, which is easy, may get a vote or two in the short run but in the long run Canadians see who thinks and understands. Laurier, King, Trudeau and, let's be fair

John A. Macdonald, were thoughtful careful people with an idea, a concept, a vision, of Canada.

Michael Ignatieff offers a deep, open and compassionate vision of Canada. Michael's vision is not sugar coated but is tough and realistic -- while taking into account the need to remember our duty to those less able to compete.

In this last respect I am reminded of the Pope's last encyclical -- much is expected from those to whom much is given.

It will take time, as it did with Pearson, but we will prevail. As Bob Dylan said, "keep your eyes on the prize, hold on, hold on".

Sorry to interrupt you in full hagiographic spate, but that wasn't Bob Dylan. He didn't even cover the song. Bruce Springsteen did.

Lyrics attributed to civil rights activist Alice Wine. This was originally an early-20th century Civil Rights song called "Keep Your Hands On The Plow, Hold On" (or "Gospel Plow"). In 1956, Alice Wine reworked the lyrics and renamed the song to become "Eyes On the Prize". Check out Dave Marsh's liner notes below for more details.

Dr. Dawg, I have the very recording -- it's from A Hard Rain and it's Dylan -- but I am glad to learn where it came from. I like the song -- it, and the album, reminds me of when I was young and idealistic!!!

Mr. Morton - I look forward to seeing this Ignatieff you know, because I fear so far he has been playing it safe - which looks like pandering to me.

It seems like most of the worst politicians can be described very generously on a personal level. And I'm afraid that Ignatieff falls into the category of one of the worst politicians.

There is no doubt he is a fine man on a personal level.

That being said, to compare him with Laurier, King, Trudeau etc. is simply naive. He has done nothing to earn that. The polls suggest that Canadians agree with me. You say it will take time yet he doesn't want to do that.

The other day, while I was at work, my cousin stole my iPad and tested to see
if it can survive a 25 foot drop, just so she can be a youtube sensation.
My iPad is now broken and she has 83 views. I know this is totally off topic but I had to share it with someone!
