A reader suggest the Olympic logo is based on the RCAF logo

The Air force logo does not have an open C.

Whoever decided on the C-maple leaf logo committed on of the sins of marketing. Perception matters. If the Olympic design looks like the Conservative Party logo, then that is what it looks like.

The RCAF logo doesn't look like the Conservative Party logo because there is no C in the RCAF logo.

When the CPC logo was unveiled in 2003 many of us who cared or were watching thought that the RCAF may have been inspiration to whoever "designed" the awful Conservative logo. Some of us thought it was just dreadful and uninspired, regardless of what or who sparked the final design.

Could someone have been instructed to bring out a "classic" design, and the thought process included "conservative" (i.e. old fashioned) which led to either the CPC-influence or historical Olympic references?

Some may recall Olympic history includes a gold-medal winning RCAF Flyers hockey team from 1948.

It seems perfectly possible that a) the CPC design was inspired by all things "conservative" (and right-wing thinkers typically fawn over all things military) and b) 2010 designers reached back in history and also came up with a RCAF inspired logo.

While I'd agree with SD regarding perception, I must disagree with both SD and Cari in that the 2010 logo most certainly resembles the RCAF logo. It takes no leap of the imagination to close that pointed C.

Speaking of similarities, here's half a Conservative logo found on the RCAF website:

Look at the bright side - it's such an awful, uninspiring logo, that it will only be used for one Olympics.

And while the logo may be used as marketing for the Conservative party, there is nothing that is going to save marketing of the logo.

Liberals are a truly pathetic lot.

Why the Liberals lost the last time;

“We had a neighbour named Gaston Moisan, a biologist who was a deputy minister of natural resources. He set traps for the rabbits, to band them, and used to take me with him. He was 5-foot-7, but he was a giant for me.”

A charming childhood anecdote — except, according to Mr. Moisan, it never happened. “I don't know how he could have imagined that,” the retired bureaucrat and university professor says. “I had nothing to do with Stéphane.

Yeah, sure Steffi...it's okay, I believe ya.

If anyone thinks Dion is popular in Quebec, they're in for a big shock...

When he appeared on the Télé-Québec public affairs show Les Francs-tireurs last fall, interviewer Patrick Lagacé asked him to prove that he has a sense of humour.

Mr. Dion replied by asking whether he was familiar with the world's shortest bedtime story.

“Do you know Bam, The Dog?”

Mr. Lagacé admitted he did not, so Mr. Dion recited it for him: “The car goes by, and bam, the dog. Now go to sleep.”

Mr. Lagacé was incredulous. “It's not funny,” he said as Mr. Dion laughed almost uncontrollably and, it turned out, viewers squirmed.

We're talkin' "invisible friend" scary over here.

And now you have Iffy who is even worse than the hapless Dion.

HAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!LMAO

Just for your consideration, might I direct you to the website www.bestchoicetransport.com. Their logo is absolutely identical to the Olympic "C" , even down to the arrow, with the exception of the arrow being on the bottom of the C, rather than the top.

I also believe Michael Watkins has a good point as to historical Olympic references. Its no stretch to think that the HBC designing team saw the RCAF emblem that adorned the Flyers gold medal winning hockey team and decided to use it as a starting point, simply modifying the round emblem to look like a C for Canada.

First of all I want to say superb blog! I had a quick question which I'd like to ask if you don't mind.
I was curious to know how you center yourself and clear
your thoughts before writing. I have had a difficult time clearing my thoughts
in getting my thoughts out. I do take pleasure
in writing but it just seems like the first 10 to 15
minutes are lost simply just trying to figure out how to begin.
Any recommendations or hints? Cheers!
