Conservatives pick up seat in rural Quebec

Well, this is a bit of a wake up call. Obviously the Conservatives are doing something right and we need to work hard to rebuild the base in Quebec. It seems our vote improved a bit over the last election but, give due where due, the Conservatives came in first.

A, "wake up call"? You think?
I think the Liberal party may achieve on it's own, what Harper had mused about some time back; a two party system - him and the NDP.
Time for grassroots to take over the Liberal party because sure as God made little green apples, the self-annointed "headquarters", guys don't know whether they're punched or...
(and Kinsella mused about polls meaning nothing; a loser leading losers!

These people didn't vote conservative, they voted the candidate who was very popular locally.

Early morning rumours say that, in the case, "something right" means "calling seniors and telling them that the polls are closed and that they shouldn't go to vote".

Liberals will rationalize this problem away, just as they have every other problem. Liberals have the wrong leader and are void of any meaning. All this could be fixed, but only if the grassroots takes the party back. However, grassroots Liberals, out of all the parties, are the best at rolling over and letting the party establishment walk all over them. Too bad, because it could be a great party again.

It was the 250 million the Tories pumped into that place on Friday, and partly the gun registry,as well, the dirty phone trick played on the Bloc.

That is a tactic used by the Republicans on Dems during the 2004 election. This is proof that Harper is using American dirty tricks to win elections, rather than winning on merit.

When are we going to wake up and realize that until we get in the gutter with Harper and his Con party, that we won't win?

It's time for us to get down and dirty and push Harper's face in the sand.

I agree with this comment, but the truth is that you need to have momentum and a strong organization to convince strong candidates to join the team. With little hope of a quick rebound for team Iggy, few star candidates are going to uproot their lives for a pipe dream.

And access to unlimited tax dollars to buy votes. That's the only thing Iggy does not have. Take that away from Harper and he has nothing.

I told you Liberals will rationalize this problem away. Somehow Liberals believe denial will make things better. It won't, but you just don't get it.

It won't, but you just don't get it.

Why don't you tell us what we don't get Con-Bot? Better yet, tell us what Harper has done to make Canada better FOR ALL Canadians.

Let me tell you what Harper has done TO Canadians--H1N1 incompetence; massive debt; massive job losses; biggest printing costs in Ottawa ever; stacking the Senate; stealing tax dollars to promote the Con party; stealing votes via phone fraud.

You're welcome to defend the indefensible, but don't think you won't go unchallenged.

I will do everything in my power to unseat Harper, because I'll be damned if I'm going to let him use a majority, a stacked Senate and right wing judges to remove equal marriage laws via the Notwithstanding clause.

We've all forgotten the right-wing anti-everything Harper. The moment Harper has absolute power, he will decimate Canada and we will be nothing more than a clone of American trash politics.

Well James, you're right - this is a wake up call, one amidst a cacophany. The LPC, to the extent it has an operating head at all, is wrong-headed. Unfortunately you hired a leader gravely deficient in both experience and skillset and his polling numbers are utterly predictable. His vaunted "war room" is, to be charitable, a joke.

I care deeply for the Liberal Party, enough that I would like to see a quick election because I think nothing short of an outright pistol-whipping at the polls will open Liberal eyes to the true state of this party.

Actually, I'm a former Liberal who doesn't have a home because I don't like Harper either. But like many former Liberals I get attacked as a con-bot when I complain about the Liberal Party. Liberals don't want to change, they just want people to vote for them. And although I don't like Harper more Canadians like him than what they think Iggiot can do for the country. If you REALLY REALLY want to stop Harper you shouldn't attack people like me who would love it if the Liberal Party were to reform itself you should spend time on actually reforming the Liberal Party. But like I wrote above, you just don't get it. And that's why the Liberal Party is doing so poorly, because you need people like me to come back but have done NOTHING to serve it.

You get attacked as a Con-bot because you bring nothing to the discussion except Con talking points and absurdity.

Liberals don't want to change, they just want people to vote for them.

Why should the Libs change? The more the Libs become like the Cons, the more voters are going to decide to continue voting for the Cons.

Why don't you tell us exactly how the Libs are suppose to change to get voters back?

And although I don't like Harper more Canadians like him than what they think Iggiot can do for the country.

Nooo...You don't like harper at all, Con-bot. More Canadians like him? Over 60% of voters rejected him in the last election.

All Harper has going for him is a divided left and access to billions of tax dollars. Harper is an empty suit with a full wallet.

If you REALLY REALLY want to stop Harper you shouldn't attack people like me who would love it if the Liberal Party were to reform itself

Again, what is the "magic" formula that will bring you back? Specifics, not slogans.

you should spend time on actually reforming the Liberal Party.

Reform into what--the Reform Party? Someone tried that and failed.

But like I wrote above, you just don't get it.

And like I wrote above; What don't I get?

And that's why the Liberal Party is doing so poorly, because you need people like me to come back but have done NOTHING to serve it.

And you have nothing to offer us. Either the Libs are too right wing, or too left wing for you. Tell us which one it is. Or, clearly from your "Iggiot" comment above, you simply don't like Iggy and will refuse to support his leadership. Just because your guy didn't get the leadership, don't run away. Be an adult and fight to make Canada better.

Voters don't like Harper better, apathy amongst voters like you have given him power.

This is exactly what I am talking about. Denial within the Liberal Party is rampant.

And the proof is?
So far there is no proof of anything,
but this could just as easily be a BLOC trick to smear a truly astonishing Con win in Quebec.

Your turn. How many trade deals did the Chretien/Martin bring to Canada?
Other than signing the Free Trade deal with the US, which is Mulroney's legacy .

Thank you for taking that sentence out of context. It shows that the Con tactic of dissemination are not reserved to the government.

And like I said, what exactly is the Lib party suppose to change? No ideas? Makes you a perfect Con-bot.

Harper is out on the international stage selling Canada.

Harper is on American TV selling Harper. He's in the bathroom when everyone else is on stage.

Nine NEW trade agreements with many countries, the EU pending trade deal is huge.

Oh! You mean Harper doing a trade deal with the murderous country of Columbia? The Human rights mauling China?

The renewed patriotism in Canadians hearts.

Oh! You mean Harper having torch relays in Con ridings and ignoring everyone else's ridings?

can figure things out pretty quick. I'm thinking about creating my own but I'm not sure
where to start. Do you have any ideas or suggestions?
