Employment stats

The economy is improving but employment lags -- indeed, it may get a bit worse before an employment turnaround.

Following two months of moderate growth, employment decreased by 43,000 in October, all in part time. This drop pushed the unemployment rate up 0.2 percentage points to 8.6%.

Compared with the peak of October 2008, employment is down 400,000 (-2.3%), with the bulk of the decline (-357,000) occurring during the first five months of the labour market downturn.

The concern for the jobless recovery has been reported for months. Is Canada in a better or worse position in comparison to the OECD developed countries?

The "Jobless" recovery is happening in many countries.

Do you think the opposition parties gain credibility by cherry picking "negative" facts for spin ever week?

Hi James,
I suggest reading this post for more info on the fact that we are still in a recession. It's an interesting read.

CanSense,

"Do you think the opposition parties gain credibility by cherry picking "negative" facts for spin ever week?"

And do you not think that the Cons, & you, don't cherry pick only positives & leave out the negatives? It's ok for you but not anyone else. Wouldn't it be nice if everything was balanced & not so one-sided - from all sides. And remember - facts cannot be disputed.

The common thread in liblogs when they discuss this is that they have no solutions. No plans just complaints.

Harper is way ahead of the Libs. He warned months ago that the recovery is fragile.

The moment Iggy retreated from defeating the gov't he proved he can't do any better. He has no plan.

Penlan,

I have repeatedly been critical of the CPC.

Instead of chasing the silly stuff, you guys don't get it.

You parrot the LPOC and drink their kool-aid.

The CPC are wrong in the amount of EAP, the speed is too fast and too many projects will be a burden.

GM bailout was a mistake.

(See when you don't drink kool-aid)

Chasing logos, bodybags, wafers, calling the government evil is just plain DUMB.

It is DUMB for Hudak and Ignatieff to let his party try to score CHEAP shots on too many issues.

People will tune you out. Of course you can parrot the LPOC and suggest it is WORKING.

Can you show me a Poll that supports the success from the constant smearing by the federal liberals or provincial tories?

Best of luck.

Hudak? Hudak's the leader of the Progressive CONSERVATIVES in Ontario.

Gee, you focus so much on kool-aid drinking you must have a jug of it in front of you & have become obssessed with it. You repeat the same things over & over on different blogs on different days & you don't seem to have a thought of your own. Just your kool-aid, repetitive, talking points.

the point is taking cheap shot from opposition is risky and does not always work out as intended.

Do you remember Jack Layton blaming Paul Martin for deaths of the homeless because of no housing policy?

Ignoring historical evidence, repeating the same partisan over the top rhetoic has consequences.

People VOTE for hope and change?

They like ideas OBAMA had?

How much of a POP difference did he win with?

Getting people to vote and show up takes many things.

The OBAMA machine is IMPRESSIVE it beat the republican party in every area.
