I almost fear to write this but ...

even for a Liberal like me there is good news in the Conservative win in rural Quebec -- I was too Party focussed to notice but, hey, a Federalist Party beat the Bloc. That's good news.

It is not such good news, as he Tories on Friday bought the riding with nearly 250 million dollars.
Not only that, the Tories phoned people pretending to be the Bloc, which turned people off ..that is phone fraud, and the police were called.
Another thing is they phoned seniors to tell them they could not vote, as the polls were closed..and you are glad of this?

Proof?

The calls were supporting the bloc, the "complaint" is that it wasn't an official Bloc call and the voice was "quavering". That's pretty slim.

Good G_d, they bribed the residents there with a useless highway...

Surely you don't think Quebec politics - even those involving the Bloc - have to do only with separatism.

Other commenters have already pointed out some of the tactics taken by the Tories that allowed voters to very safely park their vote with them as a reward.

Larger issues that may surface during a federal election - like, say, funding for Quebec culture - will cause a swing in votes to the Bloc even from people who don't give a hoot about separation.
