Contempt of Parliament made moot

Another aspect of proroguing Parliament is that it renders the order to produce the Afghan detainee documents effectively irrelevant. Until March nothing can happen and by then the order to produce will be largely forgotten. This is not likely the reason to prorogue but it may have been a factor.

James,
I disagree with you. This is one of the MAJOR reasons to prorogue. The other is so the Senate committees can be re-aligned as the new Senators, which will soon be appointed, will give the Cons (Harper) full control of them & the Senate. This is dictatorship in action - Harper-style.

I disagree as well and agree with penlan- this is the primary reason he did this.

As for the 2nd claim of yours, this is an important issue that will only be made irrelevant to produce to the documents if the media public and unfortunately Liberal supporters like you who decide it's irrelevant to ask for those docs in March.

It's not, and we should be pressing ahead for getting Parliament to force Harper to hand them over.

Remember, the International Criminal Court could care less about Canadian public opinion, or Harper's parliamentary political tactics. Their primary concerns is if there was war crimes committed or not, and if a signatory country like Canada is hindering an investigation, at which case they'd do the investigating.

At the moment, they have a good case for doing so.

So Jimmy, what is the plan?

It's fine to just simply report the news and post panda bear photos, but what is the plan.

Actually moving a strategy forward is the essence if leadership.
So again, what is the plan?

More polar bear photos?

oh I dont think it's irrelevant -- the detainee documents are crucial -- I am just unsure we'll ever see em.

With the papers aflutter with words like 'rebuke' and 'censure' over a month on, it looks like this might not being going away after all...
