Harper to shut down Parliament

Harper to shut down Parliament

Daniel Leblanc

Ottawa — Globe and Mail
Prime Minister Stephen Harper will prorogue Parliament Wednesday for a two-month break.

The House of Commons and the Senate will come back in March, after the Vancouver Olympics, for a Speech from the Throne and a budget. The move will have the effect of stalling all bills currently in Parliament, including crime bills that the government had said were being delayed by the opposition.

A post-Olympic return would also shut down government committees, which would stop MPs from pursuing the Afghan detainee controversy until Parliament returned.

I cannot understand how the Conservative party can possibly think that proroguing Parliament can be politically advantageous. I guess it's possible that I'm greatly overestimating the intelligence of the average voter, but I foresee another drop in the polls for the Conservatives if they actually go through with it and this will just allow the issue of Afghan detainees to get worse for them.

But hey, if they want to commit political suicide and kill Bill C-15 at the same time, that's fine by me.

Too bad our troops can't prorogue the war in Afghanistan.

They fight to preserve the democracy that Harper shuts down.

Why does this surprise anyone? Come on people. Harper and the Conservatives have been getting away with pretty well anything they want and no one seems to care!

Prorogue = Cut and Run

It's a routine proroguement, folks.

Parliament is often prorogued during times of national significance. Precisely what would you call the Vancouver 2010 Olympics?

A "routine prorogation" that will kill 32 government bills? In the middle of a recession? While the government is being investigated for its involvement in war crimes? A year after the government prorogued parliament in order to avoid losing the confidence of the House right after an election?

Harper, shutting parliament down, and me,being from the West, doesn't seem to matter, Ottawa, doesn't have much to do with the west. That is to say, they take the Wests tax dollars, other than that, we BC citizens, are on our own to fight the tyranny of Campbell and his henchman Hansen. Harper, Iggy, Campbell and Hansen, all, lied to the people of Canada, about the HST. Lying, isn't beneath any of their dignities. Harper, allows, corruption to go unchecked, such as the, RCMP, who commit atrocities, right on TV, for the entire world to see. The, RCMP, are Federal. This is what I mean, Harper, is useless. He, does nothing in this country to clean up the corruption which, has run rampant, into every government agency and service. It is coming to the point, to where, there is not enough wage earners, low income families and seniors, to support the corruption in this country. How in the hell does, Harper, Iggy, Campbell and Hansen, expect people, who, have lost their jobs, losing their homes, to pay the asinine, HST. Our, mill town, just laid off 300 more, mill workers. Of course, Campbell, has sent our mills to China, so, I believe this mill will go to the same place. And the burden of the HST, will fall on these same citizens. Dirty tactics, are used to manipulate residents of this country. None of the four horsemen, are worth the powder to blow them to hell in a hand basket. I, could care less if Harper, never opens parliament again. The west needs to separate from the east. The West,can have their own Federal Government. The west can keep, our tax dollars in the west. And, the West, needs to be able to control, our own resources. We, would have the option to, kick, Campbell and Hansen to the east where they both belong, and can be fascists, to their hearts content.

Our Canadian soldiers, trying to get Afghanistan into a, democracy, will have to come home and get Canada, into a democracy. Perhaps, we could have our, Canadian Constitution reinstated. Canadians, would like our, Civil Liberties, restored. Canadians, want, our Democracy and Freedom, returned to us. We, don't want, Harper, Iggy, Campbell, and Hansen. They are the worst politicians, in the history of Canada. Lying and deceit, is, their motto, nothing else fits.
