OTTAWA - Prime Minister Stephen Harper's government has paid a large price in popularity for shutting down Parliament, with his Conservatives effectively tied with Liberals in a new poll by The Strategic Counsel.
Conservatives are at 31 per cent, compared to 30 per cent for Liberals, in the poll conducted by Strategic Counsel late last week, as controversy was starting to build over Harper's prorogation of Parliament until March 3.
That's the lowest the Conservatives have been since last June in Strategic Counsel polling.

Other Lib bloggers are frothing at this nugget, including one who notoriously insists polls mean squat.
The 40+% that the tories were getting was not sustainable. This 31% is equally out of sorts. They will be back at mid 30's in a couple of weeks.

Meanwhile, Harper keeps cutting funding to organizations who oppose him on climate change.
"Scientists and top students are already drifting away from Canada because of a lack of stable, long-term government funding for climate research, says the executive director of a foundation dedicated to bankrolling and co-ordinating such studies."
