This time, I am going to have to disagree. While seven minutes may not seem like much. If there are thirty people on a bus, then 7 minutes times 30 people equals 210 minutes or three hours and 30 people minutes wasted.
Besides the math, that extra seven minutes could mean a lost connection to another bus. That seven minute delay now becomes 30 minutes for someone. It could mean a late appointment for someone.
while I see Skinny Dipper's points, it was late at night and so on..
but I agree with you James, enough already! Can't one even go to the washroom and pick up a coffee! What's kinds of lives are we living when a little break gets to be the facebook cause celebre?
And another point - legally speaking - ?? can everything we do 'in public' now get on facebook? There must be some privacy rights there still, or am I dreaming?
As usual there is always more to the story or at least a different perspective.Since I wasn't there I can't be sure what happened. As I heard it, the complaint seems to stem from the fact that this was happening with this driver on this route regularly. Apparently a regular passenger asked that since the bus is already behind schedule he requested the driver to forgo his usual stop.
I don't take issue with the coffee break, but the comments made by the driver is another matter. When questioned the driver said something along of the lines of "I can do whatever I want." That is unacceptable. Also in the age of the ongoing TTC strike threats why can't we hold them accountable for their actions.
Given that the average TTC bus driver makes more than most of the Directors at my company (most of whom have 5 years of post-secondary education and 3 degrees), it's a tough pill to swallow. If they were $12/hour employees, I don't think people would have nearly as much problem with it. Good for the passenger who complained!

Couldn't the public transit bus driver use an employee's only washroom at a hub terminal and carry a pre-filled thermos bottle on-board the bus?
