US Transport Secretary LaHood says owners of recalled Toyota models should stop driving

Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood on Wednesday advised drivers of Toyota vehicles recalled because of sudden acceleration problems to stop driving them and take them to a dealer for repairs.

But the dealers can't (won't?) take em!!!

How you take to the dealer then.

Tow it if you are paranoid.

If I owned a Toyota, I would still drive.
Leave your hand on the stick and be
be ready to drop it in neutral.

Here's the thing -- I called the dealer and they said "no fears" and my mechanic said they STILL have no idea how to fix the problem!!!

I'm on the recall-fix list. At least I think I'm on the list. My dealer left a message on my machine to "call her back", which I've been trying to do off-and-on for two days. No luck so far. :(

And I own a Pontiac Vibe! Those dealers only have to deal with one recalled model. I can't imagine how swamped Toyota dealerships are.

Toyota does have a solution to the problem. I think they announced the solution on Feb 1, although I'm not 100% sure on the timing.

PS - I'm the same anon as in the other Toyota recall thread. Longtime lurker, etc., etc.
