Hard to imagine they met let alone they were at a party together. Sandburg was 83 and Monroe 35, yet he outlived her. Sandburg's first published work was In Reckless Ecstasy (1904) -- by the 1950's schools were being named after him. Oddly though he lived to see the 1960's mostly done; a voice from the Edwardian era that continued long after.
