The union maintains that the closure of the three offices will make it substantially harder for individuals from marginalised groups to launch human rights complaints.
The three offices slated for closure received 70 per cent of all signed complaints to the CHRC in 2008.
The union, which represents CHRC employees, says this latest attack will have a particular impact on racialized people and recent immigrants. In many cases, the closures will make it much more difficult to challenge both systemic abuses and individual instances of discrimination.

The real story (as usual, found at the National Post):
''...Likewise, the facts about the CHRC branch offices are much more bland and bureaucratic than PSAC's version.
For one thing, the decision to close them was not made by the government,
but by the CHRC itself,
in a year-long strategy process led by its own secretary-general, Karen Mosher. Justice Minister Rob Nicholson also said in a statement that his office had no involvement.
In a brief interview on Friday, Ms. Mosher described how an analysis of the CHRC's three priorities -- complaint resolution, discrimination prevention, and research -- led to the conclusion that they should close the branch offices....''
In their place will be two regional headquarters focused on discrimination prevention, in Montreal and Edmonton....

There is nothing real at National Post. That's the reason is going down the tubes. Only someone with one brain cell would call anything in that rag "real".
Oh, its Wilson.
Nevermind.
How's that kool-aid? As sweet as it was 5 years ago?
CHRC today and the CBC in a couple of months along with the CRTC, can you hear that chopping sound?
I read the Post and find it does have some useful stuff. But ... in this case I am hearing "chop chop chop"
The party of wealthy white middle aged(and old)men is worried about human rights.Sure.
They are closing CHRC offices?
It is because of general cost cutting?
Maybe there really is a santa!
Shutting down the largest offices? Looks like our government will no longer commission Canadian human rights.
White people are going to be the majority on Canada within 50 years.
Not only is that a huge shame but it also means the white people will need the Human Rights Commissions because they surely will be marginalized being the minority.
So ,Harper should keep the offices open so when I move to Toronto in 35 years, not even 50, I can use the HRC's to get something for free or to make my feelings feel a little better.
